First Spanish students at the Brigitte Gauci Borda school of Ballet
Since 15 years of its inception the Brigitte Gauci Borda school of Ballet has always been renowned for its excellence in classical ballet training. Every year students sit for their Cecchetti examinations examined by examiners from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing London. This year Cara Drower FISTD was the appointed examiner to conduct the ballet exams at the Brigitte Gauci Borda school of Ballet. The school presented 96 students who obtained a 100% success rate with, 35 Distinctions, 54 Merits and 7 Passes.
Besides Classical Ballet the school also excels in other dance disciplines offering excellent training in Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Latin, Ballroom, Modern and most recently Spanish Dance. It was this year that Spanish Dance was introduced, when the school moved to the wonderful state of the art premises in Old College Street Sliema. Nine students have successfully passed their first Spanish exam under the direction of Ms Fiona Barthet AISTD IdB1.The appointed examiner was Ms Carolina Rosa from the Spanish Dance Society. The results were as follows: Distinction: Ruth Attard, Chantal Busuttil, Martha Camenzuli, Lynne Salomone Reynaud and Alessia Zammit
Merit: Anna Bonello, Alexia Callus, Geraldine Spiteri
Pass: James Camilleri
Ruth Attard, Chantal Busuttil, Lynne Salamone Reynaud, Martha Camenzuli and Sara Zammit Tabona have also contributed to another success, passing their Intermediate Modern ISTD exam obtaining three Distinctions and two Merits respectively under the direction of Fiona Barthet AISTD IdB1 and Janet Vella AISTD. Ms Pamela Eddleston from the Modern Theatre Faculty ISTD conducted the Modern ISTD exams which were also introduced at the school for the first time.
This year the school will be celebrating its 15th anniversary by staging Coppelia Ballet at the Manoel Theatre on the 26th 27th and 28th of November 2004. Mr Terence Etheridge from the U.K. has been appointed as choreographer, whilst Russian stars, Zhanat Atymtayev and Chika Temma will be the principal guest dancers for this fabulous production.
